Motorcycle Grips

What’s the first thing you reach for after throwing a leg over your bike? That’s right — motorcycle grips. This critical connection keeps the adventure going at the speed you set. Experience the difference that quality grips can make in your riding experience. Whether you prefer classic rubber grips, vintage-inspired designs, or high-performance aftermarket grips, we have options to suit every rider's needs and preferences. Upgrade your bike with premium motorcycle grips from J&P Cycles and enjoy enhanced comfort, control, and style on every ride.

As with plenty of other parts, motorcycle handlebar grips can wear down and start to look rather rough after years of twisting in all sorts of weather conditions. The solution? Score aftermarket motorcycle grips from J&P and bring your bike back to life! Be sure to check out this article from the Common Tread crew for your primer on aftermarket motorcycle grips and score the ones that are right for your ride.

Grip ’N Rip

As the Common Tread team says, “grips come in a variety of patterns and are made from different materials” so “riders can find ones that feel better in-hand than stock grips.” The features to consider when shopping for a new pair of motorcycle grips include design and pattern, comfort level and padding, grip and tackiness and finally, longevity. You want something that matches the style of your bike and with hundreds of options to choose from, we can help make that happen. Air cushions and plush padding are one route if you want to cancel vibrations felt through your hands; the tried-and-true rubber grip is the other route that’s low-cost and plenty effective. Of course, there are plenty middle-of-the-road models that balance ergonomics and looks with vibration cancellation. Pro tip: Be sure to assess the status of your throttle sleeve because not all of these grips come with one.

Aftermarket Motorcycle Grips J&P

Whether you ride by wire or are manually yanking on the throttle cable (or dual throttle cables), installing motorcycle handlebar grips offers a fun, straightforward and eye-catching DIY job. It also lets you put the power down evenly and with total comfort. Be sure to consult our tech support team with any installation questions before and after your purchase!

Motorcycle Grips FAQ's

How do I know what size grips to buy for my bike?
This is super important! The vast majority of Japanese and European bikes (like Honda, Yamaha, Triumph) use 7/8-inch handlebars. Almost all Harley-Davidson and many other cruiser models use 1-inch handlebars. You have to buy the grips that match your bar's diameter. If you have fitment concerns, reach out to our customer service team today and see how we can help!

Why is the right grip's hole bigger than the left one?
The left grip just slides over the bare metal handlebar. The right grip (the "throttle" side) has to slide over a plastic "throttle tube" that you twist. That plastic tube adds to the diameter, so the grip's internal hole has to be larger to fit over it.

Are heated grips hard to install?
It's a medium-difficulty job. The heated grips themselves install like normal models, but you have to run the wiring. This involves connecting them to your bike's battery (or a switched "on" wire) and mounting the temperature controller, which can be a little tricky. But on a cold morning, they are 100% worth it.

What's the best way to remove old motorcycle grips?
If you're replacing them anyway, just cut 'em off! Take a razor blade and carefully slice them down the length—it's the 5-second method. If you want to save them, you can try to spray some WD-40 or compressed air under the edge to break the glue-like seal and twist them off.
